Meet the entire 2023 Kansas City Chiefs rookie draft class

The 2023 NFL Draft is in the books. This means the Kansas City Chiefs rookie class is also finalized. The Chiefs entered the weekend with more than ten picks. But, after general manager Brett Veach made several aggressive moves midway through the draft, the team eventually released seven new players. Kansas City bet on defense overall, but devoted two of its best picks to offensive weaponry and protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Here are all of the Chiefs’ 2023 draft picks. Round 1 | No. 31 OF Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Kansas State A defensive end who not only played college football in nearby Manhattan, Kansas, but also grew up in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Perhaps the feel-good story of the entire draft weekend, Anudike-Uzomah has the incredibly rare opportunity to be taken by his hometown team in the first round of the draft in his hometown. Anudike-Uzomah is an explosive, hard-working, young pass thrower who still needs to develop but can quickly contribute to helping the Chiefs get past the sack rush race. Round 2 | No. 55 WR Rashee Rice, SM The Kansas City Chiefs’ second pick in the 2023 NFL Draft was also the team’s first of three trades. The Chiefs traded with the Lions to give their QB another offensive weapon, the wide receiver. Rice is a major deep threat and one of several 2023 NFL Draft prospects training with Mahomes in Texas. Rice led the FBS with 18 catches from 20+ yards in 2022. Round 3 | No. 91 OT Wanya Morris, OklahomaThe Chiefs second in three trades, Kansas City traded picks with the Cincinnati Bengals to grab a potential starter at offensive tackle. Morris has rare height and athleticism. The long arm tackle is named after the Boys II Men singer of the same name. The tackle is also a former teammate of current Chiefs guard Trey Smith. Round 4 | No.119 S Chamarri Conner, Virginia TechKansas City The final draft trade was a move to help secure the final holes in his secondary. Conner is a versatile defenseman who can play in multiple positions, including safety and nickel corner. As a fifth-year senior, Conner led Virginia Tech in tackles. The 22-year-old has the potential to help fill a safety void left by Juan Thornhill after he left in the offseason. The safety will likely contribute right away in special teams and is considered one of the best special teams in the 2023 draft class. Round 5 | BJ Thompson’s No. 166, Stephen F. Thompson Kansas City finally stayed put in the fifth round of the draft. At No. 166 overall, Kansas City completed a double dip in defensive stance. Instead of an immediate contributor like Anudike-Uzomah in the first round, Thompson projects himself as a player who needs to develop as a passing thrower. But, if he can evolve, the small school player offers star potential and flashes. A three-year starter at Stephen F. Austin, he led the team in sacks and forced fumbles in 2022. Round 6 | No. 194 DT Keondre Coburn, Texas The Chiefs used the sixth round to address a position with thin, sneaky depth on their roster, a defensive tackle. Coburn is a big tackle who weighs over 330 pounds. A four-year-old starter at Texas, his on-court play has shown a much more productive player than his stat sheet, especially in 2022. He has limitations that may prevent him from becoming a jack-of-all-trades, but he has the size and power to immediately help the Chiefs dirty the trenches in ongoing plays. Round 7 | No. 250 CB Nic Jones, Ball State Kansas City completed its final pick of the 2023 NFL Draft with a position he had great success in the final rounds. At No. 250 in the seventh round, Kansas City grabbed cornerback Nic Jones. A wide receiver converted to a corner in high school, Jones is a slender player who lacks strength but showed great instinct and speed in college. Jones needs to keep adding size at just 189 pounds, but his awareness and quick feet show promise as a defensive back with a strong upside. Learn more about the NFL Draft in Kansas City:
