Everything we know about Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep (without leaks)

We’re just under a month away from the launch of Season of the Deep, the 21st season of Destiny 2, which they talked about at least a little more than normal, at least giving us the name in advance and previewing a handful of things about the upcoming changes. Additionally, there are hints in-game as to where this is likely to take place.

Yes, I know there have been a lot of leaks about this season. I haven’t read them, other than some exotic nerfs and buffs. But nothing official about the location and story, so what I’m talking about here is just known info and in-game hints.

It’s probably on an unvaulted titan – Look, this one seems pretty clear. At the end of the Winterbite quest, a message says that we are returning to Titan soon. It reads: “Urgent: Saturn VI contains vital information. Enemy of Witness on Titan. If it is still alive, preservation is paramount. Do not waste time.”

The theory is that the “enemy of the witness” could be the giant sea monster lurking below the surface that we’ve never really had any precise information about. Is it a different hive worm god? An Ahamkara? Something else? Guess we’re about to see the return of Titan like we saw the return of the Derelict Leviathan. A bit smaller old area transformed in some way, but not without a permanent vault as it is seasonal content and will probably disappear with The Final Shape like the Leviathan did . I don’t know if he will return to his old Savathun’s Song strike in a transformed manner.

Sloane is probably back – We focused on the Vex as part of Lightfall and saw the return of our old enemy Asher Mir, now merged into the Vex network. Now, I guess Sloane will likely show up again, the former Titan salesman who was last seen going full Doom Slayer on the hive there, choosing to stay instead of evacuate. It’s not confirmed, but it seems like a pretty logical guess. Either we’ll find her there still alive and fighting, or we’ll find her corpse.

Hive Taken/Focus – You probably remember first hearing “The Deep” in Destiny during its famous Whisper of the Worm quest. It was the Hive God Xol speaking to us at the time, and this mission was full of Taken. So it stands to reason that we could see a lot of Taken, combined with the old enemy that was on Titan, the Hive. What I don’t know is how exactly they will have transformed the space. Many plagues? I guess we’ll see.

The quest for the veil – In response to complaints about Lightfall’s The Veil being a bit Also mysterious, Bungie has revealed that a quest is coming to learn more about The Veil through Osiris’ research and data from the Ishtar Collective. We know that this quest will not only reward us with intel, but also a “missing” hand cannon that was in Lightfall’s promo art, but never in the expansion itself. He’s a legendary. I think there was also a breaching grenade launcher in the artwork, but we haven’t heard anything about it.

Additionally, there will be a reward which is a new Strand aspect for each class, so we have more than two each. Titans get Flechette Storm, Hunters get Threaded Spectre, Warlock gets The Wanderer. To me it looks like something with Unraveling Rounds for Titan, something related to improved Threaded Spike melee or maybe just Super Hunter for Threaded Spectre. Warlocks… get a Threadling boyfriend who walks around with you? Not sure, these are just guesses.

Large capacity and exotic changes – Unless you’re diving into the leaks, so far we’re a bit light on the details here, outside of some recently announced Strand buffs that specifically help Hunter. Next week is supposed to be a big blog detailing the changes. We’re also going to be getting a new set of Exotic buffs, likely hooking some of them up to 3.0 subclass keywords, more than we’ve seen before. Bungie said they would continue to do so in the future.

New dungeon – It’s on the program. From what I can see, we don’t have any in-game hints about these, and these are usually kept fairly secret until launch. It’s unclear if it’s set on Titan or elsewhere, but the last two dungeons have indeed been tied into the seasonal story, even though they’re their own standalone locations.

That’s the gist of what we know, I think. I guess I can add more to this over time, and this coming week should reveal a good amount of sandbox information, at the very least.
